Haunted House

one of my grade school writings, this time for Halloween #tbt

Happy Samhain! Happy Halloween!

@pamdragonfly

Even in the daylight, the deserted Meyer house looks haunted. The uncut grass and never trimmed shrubs overgrow the spacious front yard. All of the trees bend in one direction, as if to run away from some evil force lurking in the creepy house. Windows are boarded up and the shutters are either not there or are falling off. The brick walk that leads to the falling steps is cracked and worn. The porch is covered with dirt and old branches that have been blown in by violent storms known to the area.

As you open the door, creaking fills the air from rusted hinges. On the left is a spacious dust filled room that seems to you to be an old ball room. Wooden floors have scrape marks marred deep into them. A wild dance is your guess, for the cause of the many marks. Crystal chandeliers have shattered light bulbs among cracked crystal pieces.

Directly across from this room is the family, living, and parlor room, all in one. A small sofa and two chairs are in front of an ash filled fire place. On the mantel piece are several faded pictures staring at you, and this makes you feel very uncomfortable. Stained, dusty carpets cover the floors from wall to wall. Lamps on corner tables have ripped cloth shades on them. The bulbs under them are smashed and dusty.

At the back of the house is the kitchen. In the middle of the room there is a small breakfast table with a wooden chopping block on it. With closer examination, you see that blood and bits of flesh are on the block. These are also on the large and sharp butcher knife. You wonder if the blood and flesh are of a human. Chills run down your back at this thought and of the discovery that the blood and flesh seem relatively new and fresh.

The dining room has a crystal chandelier like the ball room. A large oak table is in the center of the room under the chandelier. Chairs with decaying, caned bottoms and backs are pushed back from the table, as if some people had just finished a hardy meal. Five places are set at the table, with decaying food still on the plates.

After going up the stairs a ways, you can see that the top six stairs are missing. In a way, you’re grateful that you can’t go up. In another way, you’re disappointed that you can’t plunder around in the old rooms that are upstairs.

You stand in the doorway for one last look at the creepy house. Turning, you leave the house.

A bang is heard as some foreign force closes the door after you.

Hard to ART when there’s no available flat surface and I can’t find anything. Enjoying some MUCH needed time in my studio, making use of Full Moon Energy to re-vitalize my creative space.

All my zines for the upcoming 2013 ABQ Zine Fest are completed. Whoo-hoo!

Well, at least the creative part.  Now comes the production part.  The copy.fold.collate.staple.repeat. part.  This part is kind of tedious.  It will be made exciting by my new stapler.  And by the pride I feel in having THREE full NEW zines this year, plus THREE full NEW mini-zines. EXCITING!!!

Here’s repertoire of the new ones:

II.II. Zine of the Apocalypse – a full size zine featuring my thoughts around time and humanity, inspired by the turn of the Mayan calendar

II.III.S. Spring-ing, Sprang, Sprung – a mini-zine with a poem and images (the “S” in the numbering system connotes a sporule)

II.IV. Depression – a full size zine with my story of my chronic depression and how art keeps my balanced

II.V. Road Trip – a full size zine about a glorious road trip this summer with my husband; tons of cool photos

II.VI.S. Ornamental Patterns of Feminine Hygiene – a mini-zine with commentary on womanhood

II.VII.S. Haiskoo 9’13 – a mini-zine of poems with scooter ride inspirations

And I’ll have a (small)(few) copies of my two previous zines:

I.I. Crows, Choices, and Love

II.I. Spiders, Fear, and A Sense of Home

Hopefully you can come out and check out my zines! Saturday, October 5, at the Tannex, 1417 4th Street SW, Albuquerque. A FREE event open to all general public.

Happy Lammas!

Today is mid-summer. Truly. We are halfway through summer, celestially speaking. Today(ish) is the cross quarter between summer solstice and autumnal equinox.

I think of it as The Feast of Sunflowers and/or First Harvest. Gardens are overflowing. Hopefully, your life is overflowing with abundance of growth, happiness, contentment, peace, change, permanence, love, and all the beauty that Life has to share with us.

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine.

—Oberon describes Titania’s bower, where she sleeps. Act 2, Scene 1

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare

Today, I’m working on finishing my Apocalypse zine. Zine Fest is upon us!!! October 4-6. So I’m trying to finish up my half-done zines for my table there. If all goes as planned – and we all know how that goes – then I’ll have 4 completed full size zines, 1 mid-size zine, and 3 mini-zines. I’m proud of myself.

Aside

Mark your calendars. This fall, October 5 – 6, Third Annual ABQ Zine Fest!!

TheZINEsaurus has signed up to table. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More details to come.

And in other news, I have been working on a zine from my road trip earlier this month. And, in a sort of way, I’ve been working on my depression zine by not being as depressed as earlier this year, which has dampened my spirits – so to speak – about writing about my depression.

This is the “sporadically” part, folks.

And there are still plans to make/publish the adult poem for masturbation month. May is masturbation month. When it posts, it’ll have this symbol

(‘)

to let you know it’s adult oriented.

ZINE FEST!

Aside

I am soooooooo EXCITED about tomorrow!!!!!!!

And I am baking. Pumpkin bread. It’ll be at my table tomorrow. Get a slice with a zine purchase.

more to come later …. I’m too excited to sit down and focus for very long!!

I love autumn. I feel inspired and rejuvenated by the cooler weather and the crispness in the air. And clouds.

Albuquerque skies in autumn have clouds.
